Have you ever thought about donating your hair? When imagining the experience of chopping off at least 10 cm of your hair, what comes to mind? You probably worry about how you will look, right? Now, take a second to think about your hair being used to make wigs for children, teens and adults with hair loss, or with no hair at all. Think about their smiles and their boost in confidence. Donating your hair is a small sacrifice, that makes a big difference!
This year, the SOS club's annual Hair Donation Drive is happening on March 31st and April 1st, at school. They are encouraging everyone to donate their hair, and if possible, to share the event with friends and family. Because of the pandemic, not everyone is attending school, so the SOS have decided that people who aren't coming to campus can also donate hair by cutting it at home or at a salon. Next, all you have to do is send it to school or contact one of the club's representatives, who will then pick up the hair. Members of the SOS are also planning an exciting surprise for those who decide to participate.
Hair donating is easy when you take into account the impact you are making. A Business Insider Writer, Rebecca Harrington wrote a piece on her experience as a hair donor. She said, "The scissors snip together slowly making that unmistakable crunching sound, and 10 inches of hair that I spent two years growing are now gone. But the strands didn't just fall to the ground to get swept up and thrown away. Instead, my hair is now on its way to Children with Hair Loss, a nonprofit based out of Michigan that gives wigs to children and young adults in the US who have medical hair loss. I have donated my hair to charity four times now. In my experience, donating your hair is a much more personal gift than sending a check. You're sending a piece of yourself to a kid or adult who has a disease that's caused them to lose their hair." The most extraordinary thing about donating your hair is that people with no hair will get yours, and your own will grow back. It's just a matter of time.
